Inspired by her own childhood pediatrician on the North Carolina coast, Dr. McFarland always knew she wanted to be the kind of doctor who follows families through every stage of life. She earned her undergraduate degree at UNC-Chapel Hill and her MD at the USC School of Medicine, with an initial year of OB residency before realizing her true calling was the long arc of pediatric care — partnering with families from birth onward. She completed her pediatric residency at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital.
As a mom of three girls, she brings a deeply personal lens to her advice; she often says being a mother makes her a better pediatrician. Today she serves as Chief Medical Officer and on SCPA's Board of Medical Directors, a role she loves for the chance to shape the future of the practice and stay connected to what brought her into medicine in the first place. She's active in the community through events like the Sunshine Gala, Festival of the Trees, Ronald McDonald House, and the Heathwood Hall School board. Outside of work, she loves travel, outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and scuba diving, as well as spending time with her family.

It is amazing to have the opportunity to introduce myself to the Sandhills Pediatric families. I am Stacy Hoover; a family nurse practitioner and graduate of the University of South Carolina. I grew up in the Irmo area, married my high school sweet heart and we have two adult children. Of course, I experienced "empty nest syndrome" after my girls left so I adopted two Sphinx kittens "hairless" cats. Now I spoil Phritz and Phrannie rotten every day. Sneak a peek at their pictures at my station! I am most excited to meet many new face and get to know and care for your children.

Practicing pediatrics since 2009, Dr. Thompson brings a global perspective to every exam room. A College of Charleston graduate, she earned her MD at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and completed her residency at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. Medicine is in her family — her father is an "old-school" pediatrician — and that calling has taken her around the world: hospitals in Nairobi, Sudan (where she sheltered with 90,000 others at a UN compound during a national lockdown), and medical missions through Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, and Ecuador. Those experiences shape how she practices today. She has watched families hike for two days just to get a vaccine, and she has seen what diseases like measles can do to communities without access. Vaccines, she'll tell you, make a profound difference. Her clinical passions include lactation support, asthma care, and the steady work of building trusting, long-term relationships with families. She speaks some Spanish and loves the chance to care for diverse families across the Midlands.
