Our smallest patients, our newborns, have always been greeted in the hospital by our physicians and followed up at the Sandhills Pediatrics location of the parents’ choosing. Those little ones, and their parents, who needed some extra support breastfeeding received this help at any of our five locations on a rotating basis through our Lactation Consultant.
Starting in the Summer of 2017 this process will get an upgrade.
Sandhills Pediatrics, in conjunction with our partners in the South Carolina Pediatric Alliance, are in the process of building the Newborn Wellness and Breastfeeding Center of the Midlands on Sunset Boulevard, between I-20 and I-26.
After greeting our newest patients in the hospital, we want to offer a more pleasant experience for new mothers and their families by taking the first visit experience out of our typical office setting and placing it in a spa-like environment. In this new setting, families and their new additions will be greeted by office staff in a waiting room absent of sick children and energetic youngsters, with a focus on the needs of the mother and newborn. We will have each of our newborn patients come to our Newborn Wellness and Breastfeeding Center for this first visit, allowing a more peaceful experience for parents and staff in filling out new patient paperwork and making sure all important information is entered in to our computer systems. This first visit will focus on both mother and child and will be conducted by a physician with the additional credential of International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
If needed, subsequent visits to the Newborn Wellness and Breastfeeding Center of the Midlands will be scheduled for lactation consults to make sure that parents who choose to breastfeed have all the support they need to be successful. We also plan to offer additional support for new, and soon to be mothers, in the form of classes, group meetings, and information sessions.
We look forward to being able to share this new experience with our patients!
